Text

I will not think of ending. That would be
A thought I can't accept: finality
Is not a word that can describe your truth.
There is no ending to infinity.
No end, and no beginning: Love transcends
The past and present always, Love survives
Beyond loss and past death, and Love befriends
And gives its benediction . to our lives.
And so I made a truce with Time for you,
A bargain with the endless night and day
That if you should survive, whatever else
Might be the price of your return, I'd pay.
Not endings, but beginnings: let me give
The rest of all my time, to know you live.
Progressions: from the thoughtlessness of youth,
And from the lonely darkness into light,
And to this affirmation of one truth --
Your star alone illuminates my night.
In these beginnings, can I see an end?
In all of these transitions, can I see
The destiny that gave my life one friend,
One comrade, now, and for all time to be?
One hope, that this new morning calls you back
To all the worlds I lost in losing you;
One need, to find you safe and whole again;
One dream, that we can still begin anew.
But dreams are of the night. Now put away
The darkness and the past, now wake to day.
